Marriage coming soon in the Maddux familyFebruary 28th 2007

Just wanted to share the EXCITING NEWS... Our daughter, Hannah, is engaged to a wonderful young man by the name of Daniel David Creed Winter. Daniel and Hannah are making preparations for a small intimate wedding on May 19th. They have both demonstrated themselves to be full of spiritual fervor (Rm. 12:11), to be blameless & pure toward each other (1 Thess. 4:1-8), and to be exceptionally respectful toward us as parents. After marrying they plan on living off savings for a few months and just focus on their relationship with each other as they live in a "mountain" cabin belonging to Daniel’s grandparents in California. Please keep them in your prayers as they move on the marriage & begin their lives together.

Needless to say, Hannah will be staying here with Daniel while we head to Mozambique. We’ll miss them! Our comfort is Jesus’ promise to all who have “left houses ... Or children or fields for my sake...” (Mt. 19:29)

Community Health EvangelismFebruary 23rd 2007

Daniel, Melissa, Chloe, and Patty (Daniel’s mom & an missionary/LPN), went to a one week training course on “Community Health Evangelism” (CHE). We learned alot! The goal is to obey the Great Commission (Mt. 28:19-20) and the Great Commandment (Mt. 25:37-40 & 1John 3:16-18) by us equipping national trainers to train people in a village as CHE’s. These “regularly visit 10-15 neighboring households, sharing the gospel and promoting principles of disease prevention and healthy living.” The training style is very interactive and reproducible. We found that CHE has come up with a practical way of addressing both the spiritual and physical needs in a way that plants churches. One of our desires is to establish a CHE community during our first term. (See www.lifewind.org) The final week of training is in October.

Preparing for Marriage - February 1st 2007

How surprised we were almost four months ago when a young man in our church, Daniel Winter, asked us if he could court our second daughter Hannah! After prayerful investigation of his character and spiritual qualities, and after getting to know each other a little better spending time with him, we gave him permission to do so. We're now even more excited than ever about Daniel and Hannah. They're having many great talks together which Hannah shares with us. We're also using one night a week with them to discuss needed topics. Right now we're going through Randy Gariss' excellent six session video series on "A Lifetime Love". Get it! Stay tuned...

Big Events - September 14th 2006

This is a month of big events for us.
Melissa, Chloe, and Hannah have started Portuguese and are progressing very well.
Elijah turned 13 years old in August so we will celebrate his passing into manhood with other Christian fathers and their older sons.
Patty arrives back from six weeks in Brazil. She will be re-scheduling her survey trip to South Africa and Mozambique.

Abundant Provision - August 2006

We praise God for His abundant provision! So far, 1/4 of the Mozambique start-up costs have been provided by churches and individuals. We're trusting the Lord for financial commitments from churches at the end of the year. The Lord continues to stir people's hearts with an interest in us serving among the Makua who are only 1% Christian.

Move from the Country to the City - July 2006

Wow! It's hard to believe the quiet wooded 10 acres in the country has been sold. This is an incredible blessing as it allows us to better focus on the move to Mozambique. Esther misses being able to pick the beautiful flowers we had on the property. Elijah misses riding and mowing several acres, taking care of our chickens, and exploring the creek and woods. We're grateful that work, Walmart and the Central
