Norman & Patty Maddux started Brazilian Evangelism Association (B.E.A.) in 1967 to facilitate planting churches in Brazil. For 35+ years they lived, worked, and raised a family in Belém, Pará, Brazil in a city of over 1 million people at the mouth of the Amazon river.
They planted three churches. Men Norman mentored also planted other churches. As the children grew older, Patty was able to be much more involved in the work by teaching and training women and children in the home, in church meetings, and on weekend retreats. She always brings much creativity, joy, enthusiasm, and compassion to her ministry.

Norman Maddux passed on to be with the Lord in April of 2005 due to bone cancer. Patty then received nursing training and passed the LPN boards in 2006 so she could use these skills in Africa. There she desires to help the the needy and especially the believers to be more healthy and thus live longer lives serving the Lord. In addition she will be teaching and evangelizing among the women.
B.E.A. has been enlarged by adding the Daniel & Melissa Maddux family as part of the team. Daniel now functions as the president of B.E.A., working with the elders of Northland Christian Church as its board members. Their focus will be to love and teach the Makua.
